Simon Bakinde:

From Jungle to Glory

Founder's Story

Born in the wild heart of Cameroon’s jungle, Simon Bakinde learned to fight before he learned to read. Where others saw impossible odds, he saw opportunity – hardship became his trainer, adversity his sparring partner. This raw, untamed beginning forged a champion’s spirit that would carry him to the world stage.

In 2003, he brought his jungle-tough wisdom from

Paris to New York City

Developing a coaching style as untamed as his origins. Training everyone from Wall Street executives, celebrities, professional fighters to Golden Gloves contenders, Simon became known for extracting championship mentality from ordinary people – because he’d done it himself, without privilege or pedigree.

Now through Heroes Boxing Alliance (HBA), Simon returns to his roots – uniting veterans, police, firefighters & first responders who understand primal struggle. These modern warriors recognize his truth: the jungle never leaves a fighter. It just teaches him how to conquer concrete ones.

A lifelong philanthropist, Sondra Bakinde is driven by an unwavering passion for hands-on service. Her work spans the globe, from Haiti and Jamaica to Africa, where she is committed to direct, impactful giving.

Sondra Bakinde:

no hero fights alone

Sondra Bakinde’s drive to found Heroes Boxing Alliance is rooted in her family’s service. Her grandfather was a NYPD officer beginning in the 1940s, her great uncle a NYC firefighter, and her uncle a Naval veteran of the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Behind their bravery, Sondra saw the invisible cost: trauma with no outlet. This internalized pain led to depression, family struggles, and tragic loss, as they fought their hardest battles alone.

The solution emerged through her marriage to Simon Bakinde, a retired professional boxer. Witnessing the transformative power of boxing in his gym—where focus provides mental respite, exertion offers cathartic release, and culture builds unbreakable camaraderie—they recognized the therapeutic tool her family lacked. Sondra cocreated HBA to build the supportive community they were denied, a place where today’s heroes can shed burdens, rebuild strength, and heal together. While HBA couldn’t help her family, it is her mission to ensure no other hero fights alone.
